Members of the Lisbon book club and Coffee morning were talking, and saying how nice it would be to see each other more often during the month.  Lorraine took the reins and got an email out to a whole group of IWPers proposing just that, and found out that a "cultural excursion" once a month would definitely be welcomed, especially to places in Lisbon.  Even those of us who have been here for a while felt that it would be great fun to explore different sights and events around this beautiful city.  Lorraine graciously arranged the first trip to the Museu de Arte Antiga, with a personal guided tour in English.  After that, everyone was excited and filled with ideas about where our next trips should be!  And so, the "Descobridoras" were born...

On our first outing,to the Museu de Arte Antiga on July 22nd.  We had a private English language tour of the new exhibit, the Pastrana Tapestries, which are on loan and recently restored.

It was a fascinating tour of Portuguese history by way of some stunning art!  It was pretty successful as well-- our first cultural event, and we had twelve ladies in attendance.  Afterwards, we relaxed and enjoyed a coffee in the garden cafe behind the museum and planned our next few outings.  The August trip is to Seixal on Thursday the 19th, to walk along the estuary and enjoy the peace and river views as well as a hearty summer lunch on an esplanade along the water.

September's outing promises to take us to discover the Palácio dos Marqueses de Fronteira and in October we will visit the Aqueduct das Águas Livres with guided tour.  Anyone who would like to join us or get on the mailing list can contact the IWP office at office@iwponline.org

or email Lorraine at lorrainegnecco@mail.com.
